  • Telstra News: PREPARING FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF OUR WI-FI NETWORK June 12th, 2015

In November last year we switched on the first hotspots in our national Wi-Fi trial making it easy for you to surf and stream in some of Australia’s busiest and most iconic locations.

Since then we built out our trial network to more than 2,600 hotspots across Australia and connected you via more than 1.5 million unique devices.

If the volume of data downloaded during the trial is anything to go by you’ve found easy access to public Wi-Fi handy – which is great!

After 7 months we’re about to phase out the trial so we can upgrade our hotspots in preparation for the launch of our national Wi-Fi network. The trial hotspots will be switched off progressively from 15 June.

But don’t worry; the little pink Wi-Fi domes will be back on the air in the coming weeks as part of our national Wi-Fi network that will allow people to take their Telstra home broadband allowance to hotspots across Australia and millions of places overseas.

In the meantime, thanks for all your feedback during the trial. Many of you told us you think the service is a great option for connecting outside the home.

The trial has also helped us understand where and when you most want to access Wi-Fi. And that insight is allowing us to boost speeds and capacity at some of our most popular hotspots so we can offer people an even better experience.

If you’d like to learn more about the upcoming launch of our national Wi-Fi network you can register your details for information as it’s released by heading to Telstra.com/wifi
